Physical Science: Magnetism and Electricity

Overarching Concepts:

·  The process of rocks changing from one form to another is called the rock cycle.

·  Rocks are classified into three major groups by how they are formed: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.

·  Rocks are made from one or more minerals.

·  Common ores and minerals can be identified by the properties of hardness, cleavage, color, and streak.

·  Rocks break down into smaller pieces. Rocks are broken down through physical and chemical processes such as erosion,

weathering, and the effects of the growth of plants.

·  Earth’s land surface constantly changes. Landforms are reshaped by water erosion and weathering.

Assessments

The district is no longer administering formal periodic assessments in Science this year, but we will take end-of-the-unit assessments.  You will be given a study guide, and you should reread what we covered in your science journal and the science textbook.  You are always free to take home the textbook.
Approximate Assessment Dates:

Earth Science:  November
Physical Science:  February
Life Science:  May
