Hello Room 19,
Thank you for dropping off the writing. I am so excited to settle in with my tea and read them all!
I also received 2 by email. If you weren't able to make it to school today, please email me a picture of each page at your earliest convenience. I am using these first stories as a source of information, so please don't correct them.
The packet I sent has a lot of papers. You may already have a good system going, but if you don't, you may want to organize by subject in folders. You already have one for writing. You might consider adding four more:
I will send detailed information about which papers are for what, but in the meantime, please keep everything together so we can use it in the upcoming weeks. 😀
Tomorrow, your child will log on to Benchmark and take a reading comprehension assessment. There is a button students can push to hear the test read aloud to them. The room should be quiet as they work. I will show them how to navigate the test during our zoom call, so please wait until after class to begin. Please do not help your child with assessments. I usually say to students, "I don't want to see what your caregivers know, I want to see what you know." This is probably a good time to have a discussion about the ethics behind testing integrity and the value of making mistakes and learning from them.
I will start releasing grades this week. There are many outstanding assignments. Please try to have your child log into Schoology and complete assignments daily. I try to add videos and/or record my voice reading the directions in hopes that students can work independently. I hope things are going well for you at home. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
Have a great night,
Christina Polay
