Hello again,
This is the last email today - I promise! Since the libraries are closed, and I want to keep up our reading momentum, I have created an Epic! account for our class. This is an online reading platform that offers leveled books and a “Read to Me” option. Once you log in, you can customize the book recommendations to match your child’s reading level by clicking GRL. Definitely explore the higher level books. I recommend having your child read most of the books without clicking the “Read to Me” option, but they can certainly listen to some books as they read along. There are short quizzes after he/she reads the books. Students can also search for topics.
It is a great website/app. Please take advantage of this resource so that students continue reading as much as possible. I can add students to the class - let me know if you want me to add your other children to our class so they can read, too.
As always, students should practice what we do in class as they read (fiction: story elements, theme/life lesson, sequence of events, character change; informational text: main idea, details, text features, text structure such as cause and effect).
See the email attachment for access instructions. It is best to click “Students & Educators” instead of “Parents."
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Polay
