I am excited to get to know you all, and I look forward to the adventures we will have this year.
Happy Memorial Day!
I hope everyone enjoyed the strawberries and vegetables from Underwood Farms. Thank you to those who chaperoned. I don't have any pictures from the trip. If you can, please email me any that you took.
I have updated the pictures page, and will continue to do so over the next two weeks.
The year has flown by! We have only 9 more days...
Wednesday, May 31: Field trip to the Fowler Museum at UCLA with our 2nd grade buddies. Please pack a fully disposable lunch, as we will be walking and will not be able to carry too much. If you are sending more food than your child can eat (maybe for STAR or an after school event, please pack that in a separate bag to be left in your child's backpack). Students must also wear their WAVE t-shirts.
Thursday, June 1: Morning Assembly - 3rd grade recorder performance. Students should line up like we do for morning assembly on Mondays. Snacks and lunches to remain in backpacks until after the assembly.
Friday, June 2: Student Council Spirit Day, College Day - Students wear a shirt from a favorite college.
Monday, June 5: WAVE Awards Assembly - This will be a longer morning assembly. Consider sending your child to school in a hat.
Tuesday, June 6: Mad Science in the morning, class party at 11:30 (send only snack for your child on this day).
Wednesday, June 7: Bubblemania Bubble Party
Thursday, June 8: Minimum Day - School is in session from 8:00 - 12:30
Friday, June 9: Minimum Day - School is in session from 8:00 - 12:30. Last day of school. We will be watching the 5th grade vs. Teachers softball game. Please join us from 12-12:30, for Room 16’s Culmination Ceremony. Other family members are welcome to come.
Thank you SO much for all of the cards, flowers, and other gifts for Teacher Appreciation Day. You made my week - I feel very grateful to have you and your children in my life!
Room 16 will be visiting the Book Fair tomorrow. If you'd like, you can send your child to school with a small amount of money and we will help him/her pick out a book. Otherwise, you can visit together on Thursday night during Open House.
I hope to see everyone on Thursday between 6 and 7:30 p.m. It is a great night to have your child show you around our classroom, and to see the work that's to come in other classes/grades.
Have a great night,
Thank you to all of our chaperones and drivers on last week's field trip, and a special thank you to Mina and Sanam for donating the snacks.
Someone accidentally took Kian's booster seat home after the field trip. It is labeled with his name. Please double check that the booster seat you took home is yours. One seat was left in the classroom.
We had a great time at the Warner Walk. Thanks for your support... I think we raised a lot of money for the school! And a big thanks to those who volunteered their time on Friday, especially Farnaz and Sanam, our Walk parent reps.
The Mother's Day celebration is on May 12 at 8:20 a.m. No siblings or dads, unless moms aren't able to attend (Let me know asap if you can't make it, and then maybe we can find someone to fill in for you.) Thank you to the dads who chipped in to help cover the cost. It is much appreciated!
Lastly, I updated our pictures page.
Have a great week,
It is our turn to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at tomorrow's Morning Assembly. Students should leave their backpacks and belongings and be in line at the podium between 8:15 and 8:20.
This Friday is our Spring Sing. School starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 12:30. Students should dress in all blue - information was sent home Friday. A copy is posted on the classroom window. Please do your best to arrive on time at 8 a.m. The parent performance begins at 11:00. I hope to see you there! Our class will be second to the left when facing the risers.
Permission slips for the April 26th field trip are due no later than this Wednesday. Please be careful to fill out both sides of the permission slip and write neatly. Thank you.
Our pictures and student work pages have been updated. Thank you to Mary for teaching us about dental health and to Mina, Sanam, and Golriz for our Persian New Year celebration.
One more week until Spring Break! I hope everyone has a nice week off.
All the best,
An optional assignment was sent home on Friday: Create a trap for those pesky leprechauns. This "silly" activity is a great way to have fun building something with your child. If you decide to partake in the fun, be sure to make it a meaningful activity by letting your child do much of the planning and building. The Engineering Design Process is an important part of the Next Generation Science Standards and a great way to teach problem solving. Click here to read the info that was sent home.
Help Warner's School Site Council draft a new vision statement by completing this short survey by Friday:
Report cards will go home this Friday. Please sign and return only the envelope.
I updated our Class Pictures and Student Work pages.
Have a great week,
I hope your children thanked you today! We were treated to Jamba Juice because our class turned in so many of the parent surveys. Thank you for completing and sending them in on time. :)
If you have yet to turn in the form from Pepperdine University, giving my student teacher, Ms. Taylor, permission to video her lesson in our class for submission to the State Board of Education, please do so on Monday. Thank you!
Next week is Dr. Seuss Week. Please click here to access the flyer sent home last week. Please follow our school's dress code, especially when it comes to shoes.
Wacky Wednesday example: Backwards shirt and mismatched shoes (feel free to be more creative, but keep in mind that we will be learning all day).
If you'd like to order from this month's Scholastic Book Order, please do so by next Friday, 3/3. You can send it in your child's homework folder, or click here to order online.
Click here to see the updated class pictures page.
Have a great weekend,
We are only 4 families away from our goal of collecting 100% of the parent surveys that went home last week. If you have not yet turned it in, please do so by tomorrow. Your child will earn a superstar and help our class earn a prize.
Valentine's Day falls on a busy Tuesday for us. We will be visiting Desert Dome (our at-school "field trip" where we will learn about animals that live in the Mojave Desert) and the computer lab, but we will also exchange Valentines. Students are welcome to bring cards or small items to pass out, such as stickers, pencils, erasers, etc... No candy or sweets please.
The 100th day is this Tuesday. We will be sharing the 100th day projects tomorrow and Tuesday.
If you'd like to order from this month's Scholastic Book Order, please do so by next Thursday, 2/9. You can add it to your child's homework folder, or click here to order online.
Lastly, please don't forget to send your child to school with a separate snack daily.
Happy Sunday to you,
Thank you so much for the new rug. The kids are very happy!
I also wanted to give a HUGE thanks to the chaperones who drove us to the Natural History Museum and to Sanam (Kian's mom) and Maliha (Amber's mom), who supplied us with the snacks. We had a great time! Parents, please send any pictures you have. Thanks!
An important parent survey was sent home today (one per family). The percentage of parents who complete the survey becomes part of our School Accountability Report Card (which replaced API scores). We are hoping to have 100% participation. The classes who collect 100% of the surveys distributed will get a special prize. Please help us! Completed surveys should be returned to me by February 3, but the sooner the better... This Monday would be great!
Kindergarten will be celebrating the Lunar New Year this Tuesday, January 31. Please send your child to school in something red.
We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on February 7th by engaging in activities revolving around 100. We need your help. Please sign up to donate supplies or to run a center: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e4fafad29a4f85-100th.
All supplies should be brought to school by Friday, February 3.
The 100 day projects are due by February 7. They can also be turned in any day next week.
The Bread and Jam Slam is tomorrow morning from 10-12. We will be making care packages for the residents and families at PATH (People Assisting the Homeless). Students got really excited about helping out when the fourth grade representatives came to speak to our class.
You can access our class calendar by clicking on the Calendar icon on my homepage.
On a different note, I have noticed a tremendous growth in all of my students - they are reading and writing up a storm in class. Thank you for encouraging them to practice at home.
Have a great weekend,
Thank you for the Target gift card and for all of the other generous gifts. I truly appreciate each of you and it has been wonderful getting to know your children this year. I hope you have a great winter break and will see you back at school on January 9.
I also want to thank Lilly Barber for helping to organize our class party (making snow was so much fun!) and everyone who donated supplies and/or took time out of their day to be a part of the festivities. We had a great time and couldn't have asked for a better second-to-last day in 2016 together! Click here to see a few pictures. If you took any pictures of the party, please email them to me. Thanks!
See you next year!
