Thinking Caps
How Bottle Caps Got Us Thinking Big
For us, it started with math – an exploration of numbers up to ONE MILLION. After doing some research to put the size of this number in context, we discovered that volunteers of the 2012 International Coastal Cleanup picked up almost 1 million bottle caps that posed a threat to the health of humans, wildlife, and coastal economies all around the world. Needless to say, we were startled and disturbed. That’s a lot of bottle caps! So, to get some perspective on the problem, we started collecting caps and lids from the Warner community. We made a mural from those caps and lids to make a small statement on the big impact every sip from a water bottle or spray of silly string has on the world’s oceans… and beyond. And there’s nothing silly about that.
All of our actions have an impact on the world (and its future) and it’s up to us to choose the right one. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
