Hello Parents,
Valentine's Day is Friday. We will do a card exchange at the end of the day. If you choose to have your child hand out cards, please make sure there are enough for all 18 students. We will decorate paper bags to carry our goodies, but I am in need of Valentine's stickers (foam and/or regular). If you can donate them before Friday, please let me know. I am also in need of ink for my Epson printer (WF-2540 Series). If anyone can donate ink, it would be much appreciated! I need all colors, including black (Epson 200 or 200XL Multipack).
This week, we will do a mini debate about Maniac Magee, and write a new opinion piece. We will continue working on fractions and move into decimals. We will continue learning about rocks and minerals, and write more of our mission report. I look forward to seeing the constructed missions tomorrow! Please let me know if you need more time. The reports are being written in class.
The fourth grade is starting to prepare for the Smarter Balanced assessments that will be during the week of April 7 - 11. We don't have information yet about the specifics, including whether we will be tested on language arts or math, or both. The official tests are not beginning until next school year, but our school is participating in the pilot testing this year. Since it is computer based, one thing you can do at home is to have your child practice typing. There are a slew of good programs, including Type to Learn, which we use at school.
Have a great week,
Christina Polay
