Hello Parents,

Thanks for coming to see "Gold Dust or Bust." Wow! Were they good, or what?! If you weren't able to make it, don't worry... thankfully Chloe's dad, Guillaume, filmed it. I will post it online, or make DVDs -- or both. I am working on it and will let you know!

We have an exciting field trip planned for Monday. A letter went home today with these reminders:
  • Please make sure students are at school at 6:45 a.m.
  • Remind your child to use the bathroom because it is a long bus ride.
  • Only water is allowed on the bus, but students should pack a disposable lunch with a drink (please label the bag).
  • Please keep cell phones at home.
  • We will be back at school around 4 p.m.
  • Students may visit the souvenir shop.

Next Wednesday and Thursday are minimum days (8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.). Our class party is on Wednesday at 11:30, so no need to bring lunch that day.

We finished reading By the Great Horn Spoon! and will watch the film based on the book, The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin. It is an old Disney movie - an oldie, but a goodie!

There are some new pictures posted on the Pictures page. Enjoy!

Have a great weekend,
Christina Polay

Hello Parents,

"Gold fever - all over the place. Gold fever - a terrible case!" We are very excited to perform our play, "Gold Dust or Bust" next week. We are performing our dress rehearsal for a couple of classes on Tuesday afternoon, so please make sure your child brings his/her costume on Tuesday. The more western, the better - all cowboys and cowgirls welcome! But, the costume could be as simple as a pair of jeans, a white shirt, and a bandana (many students have already brought in many bandanas and hats - and I have a few extra, so don't worry if you don't have one!).

We hope to see you in the auditorium on Wednesday morning for the performance. We will start at 9 am, so try to come a few minutes before.

I added a few pictures to the website of our bouncy ball math activity. During our last science class with Ms. Michelle, we learned about polymers and monomers and made bouncy balls. Since one of the Math Common Core Standards involves fractions on a line plot, we used our homemade balls to collect some data about how high the balls would bounce. Yesterday in class, we measured out 8-feet bounce markers. We held our arms perpendicular to our bodies and let the balls drop. We made a line plot to display and interpret our data set.

This week, we will continue to read By the Great Horn Spoon!, and the spelling and vocabulary words will come from the book.

Enjoy the long weekend, and I will see you Wednesday!

Hello Parents,

Thank you SO much for all of the cards, flowers, and goodies for Teacher's Appreciation Week - and especially for the very generous gift card to Athleta. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We will begin reading By the Great Horn Spoon! by Sid Fleischman tomorrow. Students will have assignments to complete based on our in-class readings, which will replace the weekly reading log.

There will be a quiz on the word part meanings for the Apollo Set on Thursday, and spelling and vocabulary quizzes on Friday.

I hope to see everyone Thursday night for open house. Remember, Thursday is a minimum day. School begins at 8 and ends at 12:30. Open House begins at 6 pm.

Have a great week,

Christina Polay

Hello Parents,

I hope you can watch as we perform "Gold Dust or Bust" at 9:00 on Wednesday, May 28 in the auditorium. The show is about 40 minutes long.

We finished our Smarter Balanced testing and the math assessment, but we still need to finish the district writing assessment tomorrow and Tuesday.

Here are links to this week's word parts - Apollo Set, and spelling/vocabulary words.

Have a great week,
Christina Polay
