Hello,

This week we will launch our news website, Good Morning Warner. I will send a link later this week. The students are working on developing stories - some relate to what we are learning, some don't. We are all very excited!

I have enjoyed reading the posts on our padlets. Students are encouraged to periodically check the site and comment on what their classmates have shared. Parents can chime in, too.

We found out that we are eligible to enter UCLA's Sustainable Art competition. More details will come in a few weeks. It will be a great way to use the lids we collected!

The "I Won't Stand For__________" t-shirts should be worn tomorrow. If your child left it in the classroom, I will bring it to morning assembly and he/she can put it on over his/her clothes.

We had a great time on the field trip. A BIG thank you to the parents who drove us all! And, thank you Channa Mann and our room moms for helping to organize all of the field trip paperwork. If you are planning on chaperoning in the future, paperwork MUST be turned in ASAP. Please make sure all of the information is current, especially insurance information. Our next field trip is February 11. We are going to Reyes Adobe in Agoura Hills. Please let me know if you are interested in driving.

This week's homework assignments:
  • Math: Problem solving and practice sheets.
  • Math: More or Less game. This will be sent home Tuesday. Please play the game with your child sometime this week. It will be a fun way for you to review fractions!
  • Science: Read pages 22-25 of Science Resources and answer the questions on the sheet (not in the book).
  • Wonders: Read pages 24-27 of Wonders and answer the questions on the sheet (not in the book).
  • Social Studies: Read pages 45 - 52 of the floppy social studies book, Our California, and answer all of the questions (even the ones on pages 45 and 49!).
  • Continue to read the book for your next book project and start to complete the Story Frame Form and Character Questions sheet, both of which will be turned in with your project.
  • I'd Rather Read - log only.

Have a great week,
Christina Polay

Hello all,

I hope you enjoyed your long weekend!

We will resume Literature Circles tomorrow. Please bring your book and job sheets. We will continue with the Hercules Set and will take the quizzes Friday.

We are going to the Natural History Museum and the Science Center Wednesday. Please arrive at school on time, wearing your WAVE field trip shirt with a sack lunch that is labeled with your name. Wear comfortable shoes and only bring what you can carry. Please leave all valuables at home. Chaperones, please meet us in the classroom at 8:20 so that we can leave on time. I will give you driving and parking directions then.

This week is Peace Week:
Tuesday "Use Your Head To Make Good Choices."  Wear a hat.
Wednesday "Be A Hero. Stand Up To Name Calling." Who's your hero?  Your mom or dad? A firefighter, a police officer, the president?  Someone from history, sports, fiction? (Think simple.  No Halloween costumes.)
Thursday "We Are All Peacemakers." Complete and wear your "I Won't Stand For______" tee-shirt.
Friday "Put Bullying To Bed For Good." Wear Pajamas.

Homework for the Week:
  • Spelling Menu
  • Math: practice and problem solving sheets
  • Science: The Force response sheet. Use pages 3-18 of your science textbook to help you. Include as many science terms as possible to explain your thinking.
  • Study for Thursday's science quiz. Study guides went home Friday.
  • Island of the Blue Dolphins: Research topics - include as much information as you can.
  • I'd Rather Read reading log and response.
  • Choose a fiction book and begin to read it for the next book project. You will choose the project in class. The book must be at your level and one that you haven't read before. It must be approved by Mrs. Polay. It may be a book that you recently started. The project is due February 23.
  • Play outside (homework from the Sustainable Youth teachers)!
  • Optional: Science/Math Extension sheet (Use pages 3-28 of science textbook to help you)

Have a great week,
Mrs. Polay

Hello everyone,

I hope you enjoyed the break! We will ease back into our routine this week. Science Lab resumes with the start of our new unit, Magnetism and Electricity. We also start a nine-week partnership with UCLA Sustainable Youth. Their mission is to expose kids to local and global environmental issues and sustainable practices through hands-on experimentation and demonstration in the classroom.

The new word part list is posted - The Hercules Set. Our spelling, vocabulary, and word part quizzes will be Friday, January 23.

Our field trip to the Natural History Museum and Science Center will be January 21. We will leave at 8:30 and come back to school around 2:30. Please let me know if you are interested in chaperoning and driving. Field trip slips will go home Monday.

This week's homework:
  • S.T.E.A.M. At-home challenge. Choose a different project than the last one you did.
  • Math - Practice sheet and problem solving questions.
  • Social Studies: Read and complete all of pages 41-44.
  • Science: Read pages 3-8 and complete "When Magnet Meets Magnet." (in packet)
  • I'd Rather Read log and response.

Have a great week,
