Hello everyone,

A belated HUGE thank you to the parent chaperones who traveled with us to Sacramento and to Tanaz Banooni for orchestrating the snacks. Please send me pictures of the trip if you have them. Thanks!

The Smarter Balanced math assessment is spread out over a few days this week and next. Please come to school well-rested and fed, and stay the entire day.

Tomorrow the fourth graders will come to school dressed as 49ers. We will be taking photos and doing a couple of small activities. Be sure to bring a pair of extra shoes if you are planning on wearing boots of any kind.

This week's homework will be given all at once, but is due on different days. The day students should complete the assignments are written on the sheets. They are due the next day (a sheet that says "Monday" should be turned in on Tuesday). There is a science quiz on Friday. The study guide will be part of Monday's homework.

Have a great week,
Christina Polay

Hello everyone,

We had a great field trip yesterday. Thank you to our parent volunteers who joined us!

Our next and last field trip to Sacramento is on April 15. Logistical information will be sent out soon, but so that you can begin to make arrangements, students should be dropped off at LAX at 5:10 a.m. and picked up at Warner at 10 p.m. It will be well worth our early start! You are free to car pool to the airport, but students will only be released at the end of the day to their parents, unless I am given a signed letter beforehand.

The Cobble's Knot is due by Friday, April 8. Students, let me know if you have questions or if you need rope.

Testing conditions for the school begin next Monday, April 11. For the next several weeks, please arrive to school on time and stay the entire day. Come to school well-rested and well-fed. The testing is spread out over many days, so we should have plenty of stress-free time to do our very best. We test for a couple of days each week through May 6. Our class will test in Language Arts the weeks of April 11 and 18, and in Math the weeks of April 25 and May 2.  :)

Homework this week is due Monday, April 11:
  1. Math: Three practice/problem solving sheets.
  2. Social Studies: Read pages 67-74 and answer all questions (except the "summary") in the book, plus the "Lesson Assessment" sheets.

Have a great week,
Christina Polay

Hello everyone,

I hope you had a great spring break. Tomorrow morning, our class is leading the school in the pledge of allegiance at morning assembly. Please line up without your backpacks in front of the podium at 8:15.

With everything going on during the last week before spring break, I forgot to prepare and send home the permission slips for Wednesday's field trip. My apologies! Parents, please take care to complete all parts tomorrow night and return them on Wednesday so that your child can attend. We will leave at about 8:30 a.m.

See you tomorrow,
Christina Polay

Happy Monday!

Jump Rope for Heart forms went home today. Create online fundraising pages here. Fundraising will go on for three weeks (January 25 – February 12). During the last week (week of February 8), students will jump rope in P.E. with Coach Diamond.

Last Friday, we officially began working on our class's news site. More information to come soon - very exciting!

Last week we also started a ten-week partnership with UCLA's Sustainable Youth. Their mission is to expose kids to local and global environmental issues and sustainable practices through hands-on experimentation and demonstration in the classroom. They will visit our classroom every Thursday.

This week's homework assignments, due Monday, February 1:

1. I'd Rather Read log and paragraph
•   Choose a new question to answer. The paragraph should be written about the book you are reading at home. Be sure to include the name of the book and the author in the first sentence, just like we practiced in class.

2. Math: Problem solving task and practice sheets.

3. California Studies Weekly, Week 11:
  • Follow the directions in the packet. Please bring Week 11 to school each day.

4. Reading Olympians - Hercules Set: Journal due Monday. Quizzes are Friday, 2/5.

Have a great week,
Christina Polay
